Guest Rooms at our Historic Savannah Bed and Breakfast

kehoe house savannah

When you add to the experience by staying at The Kehoe House, one of the most romantic inns in the nation, your time together will be truly special. We specialize in romantic occasions, from private elopements and honeymoons to anniversary celebrations. Whatever you're celebrating --- or even if it's just "because," we have a romantic package for you. The ambiance is turn-of-the-century throughout, with beautiful brass and marble chandeliers, a double parlor with two fireplaces, a courtyard garden, music room and fabulous Victorian antiques.

EXPERIENCE ONE OF SAVANNAH'S BEST HOTELS

Even among the plethora of Victorian mansions that line the shady squares of Savannah’s historic downtown, Kehoe House stands out. Its vivid red-brick facade is immediately noticeable, with a grand staircase leading to Italianate pillars and Renaissance Revival flourishes welcoming guests in an evocatively regal manner. Inside, plush drapes, 14-foot ceilings, dark wood panelling, and period antiques maintain the high-society ambience. In 1868, William Kehoe married Anne Flood and the two quickly started a family. Their first address, located on Columbia Square, was 130 Habersham Street. As his business and family grew, Kehoe built a larger, more stately home.

These phenomena have made the Kehoe House one of the most haunted places in Savannah. With roses and champagne, beautiful rooms and an intimate atmosphere, The Kehoe House B&B is a storybook escape for romantic occasions. Perfect for elopements, anniversary celebrations, surprise engagements or special weekends away.

TOURS

A concierge staff can help guests arrange tours, dinner reservations or spa appointments. This historic B&B is just a block from Broughton Street and faces Columbia Square. In 1842, at the age of 10, William Kehoe immigrated to America from County Wexford, Ireland, with his mother, father, four brothers, and three sisters in tow. The family settled in the Old Fort District of Savannah with other Irish immigrants.

William apprenticed in an iron foundry and worked his way up to foreman. Eventually, he bought the foundry, which was at that time, located east of Broughton Street. After World War I, he built a new foundry on the riverfront and quickly became one of Savannah's most successful and prominent businessmen.

Amenities

This property was highly rated for its very comfy beds. This historic property is very convenient to all that the area has to offer.

He liked the Historic District so much that he purchased the southern half of the lot, located diagonally across the street, for $950. The Kehoe House was designed by DeWitt Bruyn, and was built at the cost of $25,000. The home was completed in May of 1892, whereupon Mr. and Mrs. Kehoe and their 10 children moved into their new home. Breakfast, wine and cheese and evening dessert were all excellent.

The home's architectural style is Queen Anne Revival. The house overlooks Columbia Square and features 13 guest rooms and multiple private and semi-private balconies. The rooms are elegantly decorated and have wood floors and antique chandeliers.A hot, made-to-order breakfast is served every morning. In the afternoons, tea and desserts are offered in the parlor. Wine and hors d’oeuvres are served in the evenings. The Kehoe House has 1,200 square feet of meeting space available for rent.

Though mainly residential, there are quite a few restaurants and bars within walking distance, and many major tourist attractions can be reached on foot. The employees were so helpful and so nice!!!! We eloped and had our wedding there and Rita and everyone did a FANTASTIC ...

The family sold the house in 1930; from there, it became a boarding house, a funeral parlor, and home to the football star Joe Namath. It was sold again in 1990, and has been operating as a B&B ever since. Now it's continually cited as one of the best inns in the region—if not the country.

To those who visit the hotel, it exudes the elegance and grandeur of its era and offers world-class service and amenities as well. Savannah's Historic District is the reason to visit Savannah -- it has that old Southern charm, with numerous parks and tons of well-kept, architecturally stunning historic buildings. The house dates to the 1890s, when it first served as the home of businessman William Kehoe, his wife, and their 10 children.

The concierge service is top notch, the food was very good, and the location is perfect for walking to many restaurants, bars, shopping, and the riverfront. Another gem among the many exquisite historic places in Savannah, the Kehoe House has been meticulously restored to capture its original 1892 glamour. The Renaissance Revival mansion is located in Savannah’s historic district and is now an opulent boutique hotel. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the hotel was once the home to William Kehoe and his family.

The Kehoe House B&B has been awarded top honors as the best small hotel, best hotel for romance, and top hotel for service in the United States by TripAdvisor. Me and my husband got married here with the elopement package and I couldn't have been happier with the entire experience. After the home experienced years of neglect, the Historic Savannah Foundation purchased the building. The preservation group’s first purchase, the mansion has been painstakingly restored and furnished to reflect life in early 19th-century Savannah.

Their boisterous apparitions can be heard running up and down the halls. Sightings of their ghosts have been reported in the second-floor bedrooms as well. Guests have also heard young voices when no children were present.

This is a no-kids-allowed place, so you're likely to see honeymooners or couples celebrating special occasions. The hotel draws all ages (minus the children), but guests tend to be affluent, successful, and well-traveled. The staff, breakfast, cleanness, and location couldn’t be any better.

The Kehoe House – A Boutique Inn

I loved hearing the clip clop of horses as they passed. Featuring a columned portico, the Owens-Thomas House is one of Savannah’s few remaining examples of Regency-style architecture. The elegant interior is furnished with period pieces reflecting how the Owens family would have lived in the early 19th century. In addition to an English-inspired garden, the property includes one of the city’s earliest intact slave quarters. The Kehoe House is located on a quiet tree-lined square on the northern part of Savannah’s Historic District.

TOURS

The breakfasts were phenomenal, and it was so lovely to be offered wine and/or coffee/tea with appetizers in the evenings. The location was ideal; we walked to all of the historical sites and also to the SCAD freshman dorms to visit my niece. There are occasions when only the best will do. At The Kehoe House, we recommend The Mercer Room and The Oglethorpe Room when visitors are seeking the very finest Savannah experience.

The home is famous for its paranormal activity. It is reported that William also rings the bell to enter the home after hours and turns on the lights in the study. Most of the home’s supernatural activity revolves around children. The Kehoes’ twin boys died at the age of five while playing inside a chimney, which was blocked off and decorated with angels.

The hotel overlooks the bijoux Columbia Square and is just a block or two from Oglethorpe Square, one of Savannah's original colonial squares. There are plenty of restaurants and things to do within walking distance. Kehoe House is a historic building in the American city of Savannah, Georgia. It is located in the northwestern civic block of Columbia Square and was built in 1892.[2][3] It is part of the Savannah Historic District. All you have to do is bring each other, your wedding attire, and your marriage license.

What are the check-in and check-out times at Kehoe House, Historic Inns of Savannah Collection?

One of the most notable historic homes in Savannah, the Queen Anne-style Kehoe House was built in 1893. Dewitt Bruyn designed the multi-story brick mansion for William Kehoe, a wealthy businessman. Along with Corinthian columns, the red brick residence features a variegated roofline, double and triple windows and a truncated turret as well as bay windows beneath a parapet. The home is surrounded by porches and balconies.

The Kehoe House was built in 1892 by William Kehoe, a successful iron foundry owner. The home's exterior stairways, window treatments, columns, fences and gates are all made of cast iron, a tribute to the iron foundry's excellence in pattern making and casting. The house features 13 guest rooms and multiple private and semi-private balconies. It is often photographed, and is considered one of Savannah's most treasured historic buildings.

Tell us all about the rooms. They vary in size and decor (two rooms have private balconies) but they’re all traditional, spacious, and elegant. On a recent visit, we stayed in the John Wesley Room, which had mustard-yellow walls, wood floors, and large windows. The decor felt unfussy, with little in the way of decorations beyond a fancy gilded mirror and crystal chandelier. There was both a tub and shower in the bathroom, and the room retained a sense of period grandeur without sacrificing any modern tech amenities. Every member of the staff was so attentive and friendly.

Even if you don’t book into a room with a private balcony, the shared courtyard and veranda are both pleasant enough spots to savor a glass of wine as the sun sets. I was very impressed by the kind, friendly and helpful staff. Dana welcomed me and I immediately she felt as if she was a life long friend. The Mercer room was beautiful and very comfortable - even the bed!

The Kehoe House is quaint, historic inn housed in a beautifully restored 1892 mansion. The 13 rooms are all elegant and classic (without feeling fussy or dated), with antique-style wood furniture, decorative fireplaces, hardwood floors, and chandeliers. Most have a large veranda overlooking tree-lined Columbia Square. There are few amenities, but freebies galore (free Wi-Fi, cooked-to-order breakfast), and the location in the Historic District is hard to beat. The Inn is beautiful with lots of attention to historic details.

The ornate Wormsloe Fountain adorns the center of the park. The fountain was relocated from the Wormsloe Plantation to the square in 1970. The Historic District is bordered by the Savannah River and Forsyth Park, and includes the Riverfront and City Market areas. Riverfront is a (somewhat) recently revitalized area, with restaurants, galleries, shops, and bars. City Market is a more diverse and casual version of Riverfront, with lots of live music and vendors selling Savannah-made ware.

Our wedding coordinators make it simple to have a perfect Savannah wedding. We stayed here when we went to the Stevie Nicks show. We were immediately greeted with smiles and champagne. 10 of our favourite Dobby moments

harry potter house elf dobby

The elf succumbs to his wounds after saving Harry and his friends from Bellatrix Lestrange (Helena Bonham Carter). It's also a brilliant showcase of how Jones is able to capture tender emotion with just his voice, making him one of the most interesting supporting actors in the "Harry Potter" franchise. His character serves as a testament to the values of freedom, friendship, and loyalty—key themes that are deeply embedded in the larger Harry Potter narrative. His transition from a house elf burdened by servitude under the harsh rule of the Malfoy family to a free-willed individual working happily in the Hogwarts kitchens is a transformative journey that resonates with audiences. Visitors often leave clothing items near the marker, with socks being the standout choice.

When we discovered where all Hermione’s hats went…

Harry dug Dobby's grave without magic in the gardens of Shell Cottage, and carved into the headstone of the grave "HERE LIES DOBBY, A FREE ELF". Countless house-elves served in the halls of Hogwarts, cleaning, cooking and delivering trunks, among other tasks. Hermione disrupted the regularity with her S.P.E.W. activism but, like those she was trying to help, she certainly meant well. The last we saw of the house-elves in the story, they were mingling with others after the Battle of Hogwarts. Harry never actually met Hokey, but went inside her memories in the Pensieve with Dumbledore.

Create Your Own Trunk

Much like when Dobby had to punish himself to tell Harry about the Chamber of Secrets, or when he stole Gillyweed for Harry to use during the Triwizard Tournament, Dobby risked everything to help out his friend in this chapter. As heartfelt as the goodbye between the characters was, audiences should know that it was a particularly awkward scene to complete. In a conversation with ComingSoon.net, Daniel Radcliffe opened up about how it was difficult to film the tear-jerking scene because Dobby was computer generated, though a stand-in was used to help elevate the scene. "I was using a doll and we were also using a little person called Diane," Radcliffe discussed, noting how "creepy" it was to film the somber moment.

Ministry of Magic Classification

His story told across the original seven books, offers an incomparable and comprehensive view of who this remarkable house elf really is. His proactivity sets Dobby apart in the grand tapestry of wizards, witches, and magical creatures. He’s not just a passive observer in this epic tale; he’s an active participant who shapes events subtly and overtly. Dobby tells Harry, Ron and Hermione that he and Winky got their jobs at Hogwarts at the same time. He offers the trio cups of tea, and hands them around when they arrive. Dobby tells Harry that he searched for a job for two years trying to find work, but that it was very difficult, as he had been dismissed from his previous job.

Final Take

He came to know this via the contact between his masters and Lord Voldemort. Kreacher was first introduced to Harry at number twelve, Grimmauld Place, Headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix. He was house-elf to the Black family, and was left to Harry after Sirius’s death. Despite his disrespect of Muggle-born wizards, he still earnt the respect of Hermione Granger, who became an activist for house-elves through her organisation S.P.E.W. (Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare). Ultimately, Jones voiced Dobby only twice in the "Harry Potter" films. However, with the confirmation that Max is moving forward with a "Harry Potter" television series, it's likely that audiences will get to see more of Dobby in the upcoming show.

Dobby’s Death and Final Moments

We can only dream of how awful it would be to have the Malfoys for masters. Their cruelty, snobbery, bigotry and insecurity made them a pretty foul family. Our hearts broke every time we witnessed or heard about their brutality towards such a lovely and wonderful character.

After The Chamber of Secrets, Dobby was removed from the film adaptations of all of his next recurring appearances, despite J. K. Rowling's warnings, resulting with him suddenly re-appearing in the seventh film after being absent from most of the films. Help Harry and his friends escape Malfoy Manor (succeeded though it resulted in his death). In both the final book “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” and its preceding film, Dobby emerges as more than a sideshow attraction; he’s a cornerstone of heroism. Suppose you’ve navigated the labyrinthine twists and emotional tempests of the “Harry Potter” series.

Malfoy family

From rescuing Harry and his friends from the Malfoy Manor to his tragic last moments, Dobby’s actions have left an indelible impression. This elf is on a freedom-fighting mission, defying the very overlords who once considered him property. But, and it’s a pretty big ‘but,’ these magical beings are among the rare few who can weave their spells without the crutch of a wand. After he gains his freedom, you might think he’d disappear into the sunset.

Jones began his career in the early '90s, appearing in a number of British productions, but it wasn't until his "Harry Potter" gig that he became a must-watch. After voicing Dobby in "Chamber of Secrets," Jones found himself in the Oscar-nominated "Finding Neverland." He may not be a recurring character in the films, but it's hard to imagine Harry Potter succeeding in his journey without the help of the adorable Dobby, who is voiced by veteran English actor Toby Jones.

Dobby’s death is one of the saddest moments in the entire series, and like everyone, we were devastated when Bellatrix killed Dobby. But that being said, if Dobby really had to die, we are so glad that he finally got a chance to declare himself a free elf in front of his former masters, who had treated him as a slave for all of those years. We may joke about Dobby’s endless admiration of Harry, but when it came down to it, Dobby was the most loyal friend you could ask for. His love for Harry never wavered and this was most evident when he came to rescue Harry and his friends from Malfoy Manor.

In that case, you’ll inevitably come across the gut-wrenching chapter that bids farewell to Dobby, a house-elf like no other. And even if the house-elf community at large isn’t quite prepared to join him on this revolutionary path, Dobby remains an inspirational, undaunted figurehead for the kind of future that may one day be possible for all house-elves. What really distinguishes him is an innate, fiery yearning for freedom, a desire so intense it practically makes him a pariah among his peers. Then there’s Kreacher, the cantankerous house-elf relegated to the gloomy shadows of 12 Grimmauld Place. Bound to the ancestral home of the Black family, Kreacher is a bundle of prejudices and grudges, another case study of how house-elf lives can be twisted by the families they serve. Then comes along Dobby, the veritable renegade in this otherwise mostly compliant house-elf society.

House-elves had access to their very own brand of wandless magic that only they could use. It should be noted that house-elves did not verbally cast spells, rather their magic was performed through their sheer force of will and intent. To test the security around the locket Horcrux in the 1970s, Lord Voldemort required a house-elf for the job, and Regulus Black nominated Kreacher.

He has been at Hogwarts for one week and loves his new job; he is still a free elf, and is being paid one Galleon a week, and gets one day off a month. He tells Hermione that Dumbledore offered him ten Galleons a week, and weekends off, and shivers as though the idea of so much leisure and riches frightens him. Dobby says that he likes freedom but that he doesn't want too much, as he likes work better. Other European wizarding school such as The Durmstrang Institute and The Beauxbatons Academy of Magic may also employee house-elves to work in their kitchens, clean the school, and to do minimal tasks such as transporting student luggage to the dormitories.

Dobby thought of Harry as his best friend, and Albus Dumbledore as his rightful and true master. Domestic beings that were magically bound to their designated master or mistress, house-elves were usually found in the service of old wizarding families, such as Draco Malfoy's family, and were not paid. House-elves also worked in the Hogwarts kitchens, much to the shock of Hermione, who fought for house-elves' rights when she found out. This move would have been something only a nimble house-elf could have managed without detection, which was probably why Bellatrix was so caught off guard, and it also says so much about the strength of Dobby’s character.

House-elves had their own brand of magic that only they had access to, as did many other magical creatures. The upper limits of elf magic were not known; however, it was incredibly versatile and allowed them to perform very powerful magic. Dobby taught us that heroes come in all different shapes and sizes and that even a little house-elf can stand up for himself and his friends, face his fears and show those who doubted him just what he is made of. If you're a fan of blockbuster cinema, there's an extremely strong chance you've seen Toby Jones in one of your favorite films. To date, the English actor has lent his talents to over 100 projects and continues to be one of the nation's most prolific stars.

5 friendship lessons we learned from Dobby the house-elf

harry potter house elf dobby

Dobby’s methods of keeping Harry out of Hogwarts in Chamber of Secrets maybe weren’t such a good idea (see the aforementioned cake-dropping) but he had great intentions. Dobby then came to work at Hogwarts, where he actually received payment for his labors (GF21) and was much more successful at helping and protecting Harry. Dobby was particularly fond of socks and has begun using his earnings to buy yarn and knit them himself (GF23). Dobby proved a stalwart and devoted assistant to Harry over the next years. He found Gillyweed for Harry for the Second Task (GF26), he revealed the location of the Room of Requirement (OP18), and he helped Kreacher spy on Draco Malfoy.

After using Kreacher for his purposes, Voldemort left him there to die. Bound by the laws of his kind, Kreacher was able to Disapparate out of the cave and return to Regulus because Regulus had told Kreacher to return after the task was finished. If you are easily distraught thinking about Dobby’s death, now might be the time to look away and think of happier times.

When we found out Dobby was finally being paid for his work

The big-eared, big-hearted house-elf, who just wanted a fair wage for his work, was easy to love and helped Harry Potter out on plenty of occasions. But the moment that will always stick with us was when the free elf made the ultimate sacrifice for Harry and his friends, and died while helping them to escape from Malfoy Manor. Dobby the house-elf first debuted in 2002's "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets," quickly becoming the most grating character in the film, showing up at the Dursley residence to warn Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) to not return to Hogwarts.

Thus, each sock left behind is a fan’s wish for Dobby’s eternal freedom. The guidelines on house-elf welfare were a set of regulations passed by the British Ministry of Magic regarding the treatment of house-elves. Despite their existence at the time, these guidelines were not enforced by the Ministry of Magic by 1996,[7] and therefore many wizarding households such as the Malfoys and the Blacks mistreated their elves.

When we discovered where all Hermione’s hats went…

Using magic on a wizard a whole lot taller than you must have been terrifying, yet Dobby did everything in his power to stop Malfoy from harming Harry. The moment Dobby overheard (faux) Mad-Eye Moody talking about the properties of Gillyweed, he sped off to steal Snape's stocks so Harry wouldn’t fail in his second Triwizard Tournament task, even though getting caught would probably have got him sacked. Dobby is responsible for Harry's lack of letters over the summer; he has been intercepting them in an attempt to discourage Harry from returning to school.

Serving the Malfoy family (?–

In the past in part due to their absolute obedience, house-elves had been treated very brutally by their owners. House-elves had no rights of their own and were viewed as servants without feeling or emotions who simply obey without thinking, effectively making them slaves and property rather than individuals. Hermione was on a mission to free all the house-elves – whether they liked it or not. And as they ended up refusing to clean the Gryffindor common room (because of all the hidden hats), Dobby found himself with a brand-new wardrobe at his fingertips – lucky him!

Magical Abilities

Later at Hogwarts, he wore a mismatched variety of jumpers, shorts, and socks. They were often underestimated however because of their small stature. Their loyalty also prevented them from using magic against their masters until they were free. This amounted to their reputation as push overs and leading lives of abuse. It’s heartbreaking to think of how truly scared poor Dobby must have been to be back at Malfoy Manor.

Discovered in Book 7, Chapter 23, Malfoy Manor

His unwavering devotion led to Dobby’s heartbreaking death, but to the end he was a loyal friend through and through. 1) A dobby is a part of a loom that allows geometric textures to be woven into piece of fabric. Can also refer to the fabric itself.2) 'Dobby" is also used in parts of Yorkshire and Lancashire to mean a Brownie (a benevolent goblin or elf). His last great service to Harry came in March of 1998 when he was sent by Aberforth Dumbledore to the Malfoy manor.

Heroic house-elves of the wizarding world

Kreacher insulted Harry and stated that Draco would be a better master. From the moment Dobby entered our lives by landing a sugared violets pudding onto the Dursleys’ house guest, he has had a special place in our hearts. Dobby (June 28, unknown year - March 1998) is a recurring character in the Harry Potter series. His peculiar yet endearing nature, coupled with his undying loyalty, has endeared him to millions around the globe. The annual influx isn’t composed of typical beachgoers but of individuals honoring a symbol of freedom and sacrifice. Harnessing his magical prowess, Dobby lays hold of our harried heroes and prepares to teleport them to sanctuary—a tranquil spot known as Shell Cottage, inhabited by Bill Weasley, Ron’s older brother.

She served Hepzibah Smith until being convicted by the Ministry of poisoning her mistress. The memory Harry witnessed was one of Voldemort’s visits to Hepzibah, where he altered Hokey’s memory after having the house-elf slip the poison into her cocoa. It is implied that with a wand and the proper knowledge, house-elves might be able to do other magic, as Winky was accused of using the Morsmordre spell to conjure the Dark Mark in the sky, though it was in fact cast by Bartemius Crouch Jnr. Bartemius Crouch Snr suggested that Amos Diggory was implying that "I routinely teach my servants to conjure the Dark Mark", suggesting that it would have been possible for Winky to use the spell if she had the knowledge. But like on so many previous occasions when Harry had been in need of help, it wasn’t Dumbledore who came to his aid, but his faithful friend, Dobby.

He considered himself to be a good house-elf, though other house-elves seemed to find his desires and proclamations of being a free house-elf to be shameful. When he went to work at Hogwarts he refused Dumbledore's original offer of ten Galleons a week and weekends off, opting instead for one Galleon a week and one day off per month. He explained to Harry, Ron, and Hermione that he liked freedom very much, but he liked work better.

The district has a slight Latino majority, with white voters also accounting for nearly 40% of the electorate, according to data from California Target Book. It includes cities like Madera, Ceres and Merced and portions of Modesto and Turlock, as well as rural swaths of the San Joaquin Valley. House candidates Democrat Adam Gray’s and Republican John Duarte’s stances on abortion, the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, inflation, other issues. Trump won the district in 2020 by a little more than one percentage point, according to data from California Target Book. There will be no transportation offered to visitors by farm staff to the field. From the joy these fields of sunflowers bring, came the desire to give back to our community. We partnered with Make-A-Wish NH in 2016 because they are an organization we feel strongly about. Our farm is a family destination, and Make-A-Wish NH works with children and families. We have enjoyed working with them and look forward to many more.

For that reason, it is imperative that each ear remains on the stalk in order for us to harvest it. We ask that those that visit our maze respect our crop by not picking the ears on your way through, and by not cutting through the stalks of corn, which can knock the ears of corn to the ground. With its working draft horses, corn maze, sunflower field, and farm stand, Coppal House Farm in Lee, New Hampshire, makes for a terrific fall day-trip. If any of these activities interest you, please discuss them with our farm staff when you make your field trip reservation.

Some activities may be unavailable depending on the season. Coppal House Farm is a real working farm where students will see all aspects of farm life, crops, and animals. Our farm and corn maze are set up in a manner that encourages team building, cooperative learning, and a rewarding educational experience. As an eighth-grade educator for 27 years, Carol has helped turn this working farm into a place where there are learning opportunities for all age groups. Starting with the corn maze, there are trivia questions about this year’s theme. Our themes have encompassed the birds of the air, to the mammals & amphibians that roam our fields and woods, to plant life that you can find all over NH.

The rematch between Republican Rep. Ken Calvert and Democrat Will Rollins is one of several 2024 California races that will help determine which party controls the House. Calvert — who has represented parts of the Inland Empire for more than three decades — narrowly staved off Rollins last cycle in a race that was far more competitive than expected. This time, Rollins will be aided by the full backing of the Democratic Party and far more fundraising support.
